Reiki And Energy Healing Aftercare
Reiki attunements and energy healing clears unhelpful energy, and fine tunes the chakra system to expand and enhance energy flow. This naturally releases toxins on both physical and energetic levels, similar to the after effects of exercise workouts, massage therapy, physiotherapy, myofascial release, or acupuncture, for example. The after effects may make symptoms feel worse for a few days but this is only temporary and part of the energy releasing process as your energy systems recalibrate to a new you.
NOTE ~ Temporary symptoms of release may include feeling heat, coolness, headaches, sensation of tingling in the center of the palms or soles of the feet, crying (emotional release), changes in perception of energy, old symptoms may flare up, tiredness, or you may feel no changes at all. We each respond uniquely as our energy field holds different levels of toxins in the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies both consciously and subconsciously. Always speak to your Reiki Practitioner, and/or a medical professional if you have any concerns.
Aftercare is essential and supportive to gaining optimal results from energy work. Whether you feel any symptoms or not, aftercare offers continued support to process, release, and integrate healing for 48 hours or more after.
Here are some simple yet effective ways to support yourself:
HYDRATION
Sufficient hydration with pure water before and after energy work and/or Reiki attunements is essential for keeping life force energy (chi, ki, prana, qi) flowing, healthy blood circulation for detoxification, is essential for hydration on cellular levels for optimal function and health, and supports the organs in flushing out toxins. Water promotes purification on cellular and energetic levels beyond what we see with the naked eye.
Lemon water is also an excellent way to hydrate both before and after energy healing and assist with the detoxification process if you love the taste and your physical body is able to tolerate lemons.
GROUNDING
This is essential for all energy healing and spiritual practices. Earth’s frequency purifies our energy field, helps us find inner balance, harmony, and aids in releasing toxins from our energy field. It helps us reduce stress, reduces inflammation, and supports our mental and emotional health. Daily connection to the earth is vital to our wellbeing.
To practice grounding, walk in nature, walk or dance barefoot on grass or earth for at least 15 minutes, sit in meditation with feet planted firmly on the ground, lay on the ground, or listen to 432 hertz solfeggio frequency music. If you can’t get outside, simply visualize, look at your beautiful houseplants or an image of nature to submerse yourself in, or use a grounding mat/pad. Gentle exercise will also help ground energy as it brings our attention mindfully back to being in our physical bodies and out of our heads.
SALT BATHS
Taking hot salt baths (Epsom, pink Himalayan, or dead sea salts) supports the cleansing and purifying of the body and auric field. The minerals in salts are also good for the skin, and a warm salt bath increases the blood flow which supports releasing toxins on a physical level.
PLENTY OF REST
Sufficient sleep and rest when the body calls for it is essential for supporting repair and replenishment on both physical and energetic levels. It helps to improve blood circulation which aids in eliminating toxicity. A good sleep routine is reduces stress and improves blood circulation. Good habits include clean, natural fibre sheets and pillows, clean air, a clutter free room, turn wi-fi off to reduce EMF’s, and a good personal hygiene routine to unwind and prepare the mind, body, and soul for sleep.
EAT LIGHTLY
Eat plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits, clean foods (unprocessed, free of additives and preservatives) that are easily digested. Consume proteins that are easier to digest. Avoid stimulants such as alcohol, caffeine, and recreational drugs.
GENTLE EXERCISE
Movement strengthens but also detoxifies, and promotes increased energy flow. Practices such as Yoga, Tai Chi, and Qigong are gentle movements guided by the natural flow of life force energy. Dancing or other gentle physical activities you enjoy also helps to get energy flowing and elevates your frequency to feel good.
JOURNALING
The process of writing down thoughts and feelings offers many benefits if you experiencing an emotional release. Handwriting supports the mind-body connection in creating new neuro pathways, but typing will work if you prefer. Allow thoughts to flow free, and free of judgment. Then, throw, burn, shred, or delete to release their energy if need be.
You may want to adopt all, some of these holistic aftercare/selfcare suggestions, or follow your own guidance. The more energy work you receive the more you will know what feels most supportive to you in the release, recalibration, and integration phases.
These self care suggestions will also support you through big energetic shifts we experience during the moon’s cycles, eclipses, planetary transits, and solar flares that are more amplified on almost a continual basis at this time in our evolution. Empaths and those sensitive to energy will feel the fluctuations more intensely than perhaps others will.
Listen to your body, allowing it to guide you, it may have different needs each time you practise or receive a Reiki treatment. Above all else, be extra gentle and loving with yourself in the process of doing energy work. Self nourishment and self nurturing is essential.
